The Urban Decay Smoky Palette was a gift I got for Christmas. A little bit of a treat shall I say, as it is something that lots of people have in terms of eyeshadows. I am not usually one of these people, and when I opened the wrapping to discover this I was excited. An item that I had ummed and ahhed about. It was a "Is this something good because it is good, or is it again another money because of the name" thing. I have to say I looked forward to using it, and determining whether it was all it was cracked up to be. The really cool thing I found about this, other than the REALLY pretty packaging (I'm a sucker for packaging... T_T) was the fact that inside the box, they had included a little leaflet that told you some ideas you could use and how to apply them. I have used two of them, the Cat Eye Smoke and the Everyday Smoke. Out of those two, I have to say the one I will use more is the the Cat Eye Smoke, due to it being a more natural tone using all the browns and golds. The one problem I had at first was I was unsure which side of the brush was which, without having to double check each time. It does obviously require you have other eyeshadow brushes, but as a small kit I think it wasn't such a biggy. Just make sure that you have other brushes if you tend to do your eyes more than I do.
Whilst using this it feels great. You have great coverage and the colours are fantastic. You don't need to use much to get what you're after. It's at a price of £38.50 depending on where you purchase it from. I think for a eyeshadow palette that is supposed to be absolutely amazing it is a LITTLE steep. However as I mentioned previously the pigment of the colours are amazing, you do not need to use very much, and used correctly the colours blend together amazingly well.
I think however if I hadn't received this as a gift, I am unsure as to whether I would have purchased this myself. It was difficult to spend £26 on a foundation, but the great thing is, that I know this will probably last me more than a year hopefully, as I don't tend to do eyeshadow very often. Mostly special occasions.
Pros: Comes with a booklet to explain some different looks.
Comes with a brush to help blend and crease.
Do not have to use very much because the pigment is perfect.
Feels nice on eyes.
Has a mirror so you can look at yourself when on the move to top up.
Amazing Packaging (But that's my weakness). Makeup Beginners can use with help from leaflet.
Cons: Felt a little intimidated when first opened.
VERY Pricey.
So other than it being almost £40... Which is almost a full day's work for me to just afford that. I think it's a pretty great item. But I think if I could find a cheaper version with great pigmentation like this, I wouldn't mind doing that. Unless of course this last for MANY MANY years. Then £40 every couple of years isn't SO bad I guess. ;D
